About TCF Practice

A free, bring-your-own-key platform for TCF Canada writing practice.

TCF Practice is completely free. We charge no fees and sell no subscriptions. You provide your own AI API key and pay your provider directly for usage you choose.

What is TCF Practice?

TCF Practice is an independent online learning platform that helps you prepare for the Production Écrite (writing) section of the TCF Canada exam. You write responses to realistic tasks, then request feedback from the AI provider of your choice using your own API key.

The platform is an educational tool only. It does not administer the official exam, it is not affiliated with France Éducation international or IRCC, and it does not guarantee any exam or immigration outcome.

Our mission

Quality TCF preparation should be accessible to everyone. TCF Practice is completely free. By letting you connect your own AI account, we keep the service free while giving you full control over which model evaluates your work and what it costs.

Supported AI providers

You can bring an API key or endpoint from any of these providers:

OpenAI — GPT-5.5, GPT-4o, and other GPT models
OpenRouter — One key for many models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, Llama, etc.)
Grok (xAI) — Grok models
Google Gemini — Gemini models
Anthropic Claude — Claude models
Ollama (self-hosted) — Your own VPS via HTTPS /v1

AI evaluations are estimates only. Different providers may give different results for the same text. You remain responsible for reviewing all feedback.

Why bring your own API key?

It keeps TCF Practice completely free — there is no subscription and no markup on AI usage.
You choose the provider and model you trust for evaluation.
You control your own spending directly with the provider.
Your key is encrypted and used only to communicate with the provider you selected.
We are not responsible for API charges, outages, or incorrect responses from third-party AI services.

Free trial evaluations

Try AI essay feedback in Practice and Mock Exam with no API key. Platform-funded OpenRouter credits let new users evaluate before bringing their own key.

Dashboard-first practice

Practice and Mock Exam are one click from the dashboard. A guided checklist helps new users try a free evaluation and complete their first essay without friction.

Skippable onboarding & exam profile

Optional first-run intake or skip straight to practice. Exam date, target NCLC, and purpose are editable any time under Settings → Profile.

Exam plan & NCLC tracking

Dashboard countdown to exam day, current versus target NCLC from your essay history, progress bar, study tasks, and CLB/NCLC status when you are set up.

Writing Coach

Conversational AI coach for TCF Canada writing — intake, level guidance in NCLC terms, and personalised dashboard tasks.

Built-in Question Bank

Official-style practice combinations curated from public learning sources. For practice only — not official exam material.
